Edmonton, Canada (08/09/01) - The men's first round of the 1500 meter provided some Michigan talent and they did not dissapoint. Canadian Kevin Sullivan and American Paul McMullen both easily qualified for the Semi-Finals Friday night. Paul McMullen finished 5th in his heat, which also featured the world record holder Hicham El Guerrouj. McMullen ran 3:38.48 to grab one of the six automatic spots for the next round. Sullivan finished 6th in his heat with a time of 3:38.76.

The U.S.A. struck Gold in the men's 110 Meter Hurdles. Allen Johnson defeated Cuba's Anier Garcia in a close finish.

The Men's 200 Meter provided an exciting finish with Konstadinos Kederis of Greece taking the Gold in 20.04 and the next three places all having a time of 20.20. Jamaica's Christopher Williams takes the silver and Saint Kitts' Kim Collins and USA Shawn Crawford both get Bronze.

Dimitri Markov of Australia wins the Gold Medal in the Pole Vault with 6.05 meters and American Nick Hysong takes the bronze with 5.85 meters. Russian Olimpiada Ivanova wins the 20K walk in 1:27:48. Marion Jones, LaTasha Jenkins and Kelli White all advance in the 200 meter. American's Runyan, Rudolph and Dryer fail to advance in the 5,000.
