IAAF World
Championships
Day 8

Edmonton, Canada (08/10/01) - Day 8 at the World Championships was filled with both excitement and disappointment. Marion Jones redeemed herself after losing the 100 meter race by winning the 200 in 22.39. Debbie Ferguson of the Bahamas takes the silver in 22.56, while the USA's LaTasha Jenkins gets the bronze in 22.85.

In the 5000 final Kenya's Richard Limo wins with a time 13:00.77, Ali Saidi-Sief, Algeria, gets the silver in 13:02.16, and Ethiopia's Million Wolde is 3rd in 13:03.47. American Adam Goucher places 10th in 13:24 a season best.

In the 1500 Kenya's Bernard Lagat and Morocco's Hicham El Guerrouj both win their heats in 3:35.82 and 3:39.54 respectively. In Michigan news American Paul McMullen qualifies for the final Sunday afternoon by placing 6th in his heat. Canadian Kevin Sullivan fails to advance to finals with his 9th place finish.

Jenny Adams, Anjanette Kirkland, and Gail Devers all advance to the 100m Hurdle finals. Devers runs 12.56 the best time in the world this year. Amy Acuff qualifies for the women's High Jump finals. Breaux Greer throws 83.60m in the Javelin to advance to the finals. Russia's Tatyana Lebedeva jumps 15.25m to win gold in the Triple Jump. Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic runs 47.49 to win gold in the 400 Meter Hurdles.

In other news RunMichigan's John Brabbs runs 2:27.21 in the Edmonton 2001 World Media 800m race and places 42nd out of 121.
