GVSU - Women's Cross Country Finishes Second at Knight Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - The Grand Valley State women's cross country team finished second with 64 points at the Calvin Knight Invitational on Saturday morning.
In the first meet of the season, junior Kelcie Severson led GVSU with a sixth-place finish and a time of 18:12.2 in the 5K race. Finishing just behind her, classmate Courtney Brewis took seventh, crossing the line at 18:13.8.
Sophomore Kelsey Young placed 17th, finishing at 18:35.9, while redshirt freshman Mary Boyd was close behind in 20th with a time of 18:38.4. Taking 26th, junior Sarah Thomas crossed the finish line with a time of 18:50.3.
Redshirt freshman Keira Jack also ran for GVSU, placing 32nd with a time of 18:54.9. Classmates Natalie Nelson and Melissa Morgan ran a 19:23.5 and 19:30.2, respectively. Junior Alex Alfaro-Gonzalez was the final runner for the Lakers and crossed the finish line with a time of 19:39.7.
The Lakers are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14 at the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing.
