Interview with Dave Gramlich - 25k Championships Views- 1541

pic-gramlich.jpgRM: How has your training been leading up to the 25k championships? Is this the BIG race that all of your training has been geared towards or just a stop on the way? Why is that?

DM: The 25k championships is the culmination of my spring racing season. I had envisioned more of a track focus this spring but I had some opportunities for some good road races and I felt like the 25k was a good simulation for the racing I'll be doing leading up the Marathon Trials in November.

RM: When training for the 25k, do you train more like a marathoner, more like a 10k runner with some long runs or something totally different all together? Why is that?

DG: I am a marathoner by nature so I feel like no matter what, I'm always training like a marathoner. This spring I've been doing a ton of threshold runs and some 10k work. I'd say for a 25k you need a good balance between marathon work and 10k work.

RM: What would have to happen for you to walk away from the 25k championships with a sense of satisfaction or contentment?

DG: For me 2007 is a year of "getting my feet wet" in the national championship level races like the 25k and learn as much as I can. I will walk a way from the 25k with a sense of satisfaction if I put out a personal best at the distance and finish in the top 10.

RM: Why did you choose to come race the 25k championships?

DG: I had a great time at the race last year and I like the distance. I think this race is well organized and it's a good course.

RM: What will be the winning time this year and will an american win the overall race once again, like what happened last year?

DG: 1:14:10 is my prediction. An American will once again win overall! I think anytime you have an "American Record Holder" on the same course he broke the record on there's a good chance the record will fall. I wouldn't be surprised if more than one person ran faster than the record. 2007 has been a huge year for American distance running and I think some of the guys in this race want to let everyone know that they also are a big part of the surge.

Thanks for the great interview Dave! (Interview conducted by Nick Cordes)
