It was the second-slowest Boston race since 1985, as temperatures rising into the 80s slowed the leaders and may have convinced as many as 4,300 entrants to sit this one out.
Wolbert, the longtime Powers cross country coach and veteran marathoner, finished 1,297th in a field of 22,500 as the mercury soared to a record 87 degrees.
Wolbert crossed the line in three hours, 14 minutes and 25 seconds, placing 47th in the men's 50-54 age group and 24th among Michigan finishers. Wolbert was also third among Michigan men aged 50-54.
Grand Blanc's Nicole Falvo was sixth among Michigan women and 2,887th overall in 3:28:42. She was 363rd among women and 300th in the 35-39 age group. It was Falvo's best time in five starts at Boston.
Fenton's Lisa Veneziano finished 4,370th in 3:38:51 in her first Boston appearance since 2009. She was 789th among women and 48th in the 45-49 age group.
Fenton's Matt Wallace, the youngest area finisher at age 20, was 6,663rd in 3:51:05. He was 257th in the 20-24 age division. Wallace ran his first marathon while still a senior at Powers, placing 85th in the Las Vegas Marathon in 2:58:28.
Fenton's Larry Gutierrez was 7,573rd and 596th in the men's 50-54 age group in 3:55:22.

Flushing's Jan Wallen powered her 71-year-old body through the stifling heat, finishing 21,052nd in 6:17:34. She was 12th in the women's 70-74 age group.
