The girls from Carson City Crystal took the girl's State Championship with a score of 64 points. Second went to Kalamazoo Hackett with a score of 107. Kalamazoo Christian took third with 122 and 4th went to Blissfield with 153 points. Individually, the fastest runner in the girl's class C race was Bethany Brewster of (Saginaw) Valley Lutheran High School. Bethany's time is so far the fastest on the day, an excellent 18:00. Second overall went to Megan Warnke, also of Valley Lutheran, in a time of 19:26.
Whitmore Lake wins Girl's D Title...
In the girl's class D race, Whitmore Lake placed three runners in the top 10 on their way to the D title. Betsy Speer & April Jackson, both of Whitmore Lake, went 2-3 to contribute to the Whitmore Lake championship.
Grass Lake takes Boy's D Crown, Shay leads all runners.
With a score of 53 points, the boys team from Grass Lake took the overall team championship. Second went to Pittsford with a score of 86. Close behind in third place was Ann Arbor Greenhills with a total of 88. Fourth went to New Buffalo with a score of 111 and rounding out the top 5 was Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard with a score of 117. Individually, Ryan Shay, one of the state's top distance runners, lead all class D runners for the easy victory in an unofficial time of 15:29. Shay is a senior at Central Lake and should have a promising college career.
GIRLS CLASS A: VanTuyl smokes the field and Sterling Hghts Stevenson takes the team crown!
In the battle of the Stevenson's, it was Sterling Hgts 104 and Livonia 126. Third place went to Novi with a score of 182, followed closely by Traverse City with 184 points. Rounding out the top five was Rockford with 190 points. Sharon VanTyul of Portage Northern wins the Class A State title for the third time in a row with a time of 17:52. Second place overall and first in the individual race goes to Andrea Rosema of Jenison in an unofficial time of 18:34.
