2019 HAP Crim Festival of Races to Feature New Friday "Rock the Block"
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
2019 HAP Crim Festival of Races to Feature New Friday "Rock the Block" Festival, Ten Mile Tailgate,
and Partnership with Crust Bakery for New Post-Race Festival Food Option
Race organizers are pleased to announce a number of exciting new features and enhancements to longstanding traditions at the 2019 HAP Crim Festival of Races, including a new "Rock the Block" community festival on Friday, August 23, a new Ten Mile Tailgate party along the Crim course, and a new option for post-race food featuring Crust Bakery.
The Friday night Rock the Block festival, in partnership with Team One Credit Union, will be a decades-themed party, featuring separate sets of music from the 70's, 80's and 90's. Festival goers are encouraged to dress in the fashion of their favorite decade. Rock the Block will be free of charge to the entire community, and will serve to enhance the experience for Lois Craig Invitational Special Olympics athletes and spectators, as well as Michigan Mile racers and spectators. The Festival will start at 5pm and conclude at 9pm, in downtown Flint.
The Crim 10 Mile route will be more exciting than it has been in years, thanks to the Ten Mile Tailgate Party, made possible in partnership with Kettering University. Neighborhood groups, churches, sports teams, clubs and businesses are encouraged to set up cheering sections along the course. Cash prizes will be given to the top-judged groups, and noisemakers will be provided to thousands of spectators to help cheer racers on.
In response to growing requests for an alternative to the tradition of a slice of pizza along with a beer for every finisher, the Crim is excited to partner with nationally famous local producer Crust Bakery to offer a new option alongside pizza. To go along with their cold post-race beer, racers will be able to choose between a slice of pizza, or opt for a giant slice of Crust's famous French Miche sourdough bread topped with a generous smear of their choice of Crust's cheese spread, their house-made hommus, or Nutella.
"We always strive to keep things fresh and inspiring at the Crim with new features, while maintaining our time-honored traditions," said Race Director Andrew Younger. "This year we're thrilled to offer a better Friday night party for everyone in the community, unparalleled support and entertainment from start to finish along the courses, and a post-race celebration that is fun and rewarding, featuring great music and food from one of the best bakeries in the country."
The 2019 HAP Crim Festival of Races will take place Friday, August 23 with the Michigan Mile, and will continue on Saturday, August 24, with the iconic Crim 10 Mile race presented by McLaren, 5 Mile race presented by Al Serra Auto Plaza, 5K race presented by Huntington Bank, and Teddy Bear Trot presented by Financial Plus Credit Union.
