Provided by Hillsdale
The outdoor track season began this weekend at Vanderbilt University for the Charger men. The cool drizzle throughout the day hardly impacted the runners, as they battled the competitive field of Division I athletes.
Senior thrower Daniel Capek opened up his final outdoor season with a second place finish in the hammer throw (56.78 meters) and the discus (47.21 meters). Across the track, junior Seth Overla launched a massive lifetime best in the javelin throw of 48.48 meters, earning him fourth place.
Junior Jared Schipper continued representing the field events well at long jump, taking eighth with a leap of 6.53 meters.
Sophomore sprinter Nathan Pando also began the season with a strong performance, running 11.02 in the 100 meters for 9th place, while sophomore David Downey finished strong in the 400 hurdles for 12th, running 57.19 meters.
