SVSU - Mudd, Black and VanderVeen, Finish Top 10 at NCAA DII Championships

Pittsburg, Kansas — The SVSU Men's Track and Field team sent three athletes to compete in the NCAA DII Championships held by Pittsburg State. Andrew Mudd and Sam Black competed in the men's heptathlon, while Noah VanderVeen participated in the high jump competition.

Andrew Mudd - 5th out of 14

Mudd finished the day with a total of 5440 points to give SVSU four points.

His highest finish was in the 1000m run where he took second place with a time of 2:40.8

He finished fifth in the shot put competition, sixth in the 60m dash, seventh in the high jump, 60m hurdle, and pole vaulting competition.

He rounded out his events with a ninth place finish in the long jump competition with a 6.88m jump.

Sam Black - 7th out of 14

Black finished the championships with a total of 5344 points, and gave SVSU two points overall.

He finished second in the shot put competition with a 13.32m throw, followed by another second place finish in the high jump competition with a height of 2.04m.

In the 1000m run, Black took a sixth place finish with a time of 2:45.45.

In the 60m hurdles, he recorded a ninth place finish followed by 10th place finish in pole vaulting, 11th place in the 60m and a last place finish in the long jump competition.

Noah VanderVeen - 8th out of 14

VanderVeen finished the high jump competition, clearing the 2.03m and then the 2.08m jump. He earned one point for Saginaw Valley State.

The Championships are the conclusion of the indoor season so the SVSU Track and Field teams will begin to train for the outdoor season beginning at the end of March.
