GVSU - Lakers Complete First Day at Indoor Track & Field Nationals

The Grand Valley State men's and women's track & field teams completed the first of action at the 2018 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field Championships in Pittsburg, Kan. The Laker men sit second overall with 15 points, only behind Adams State who has 20 points, while the women ended the day in 27th place with three points. In addition, GVSU saw two indoor school records broken, two women athletes advance to tomorrow's finals, four new personal records and five podium finishes.

The women had two athletes make podium appearances on Friday evening, as Kelly Haubert placed seventh in the 5,000m race with a time of 16:48.19, which was a personal-best. Lucy Buckholz also set a personal-best in the pole vault with a clearing of 3.82m, as she placed eighth.

The GVSU men saw podium finishes from Enael Woldemichael, Zach Panning and the Distance Medley Relay team. Woldemichael finishes third with a personal record of 14:10.89 in the 5,000m race, followed by Panning, who placed sixth with a time of 14:14.40. The DMR team composed of Dave Jones, Jaylin Golson, Dennis Mbuta and Wuoi Mach set an indoor school indoor record in the event with a time of 9:41.92, en route to a third place finish.

Chant'e Roberts advanced to the 400m finals, after she ran a personal-best and a indoor school record of 54.97 second, while Rachael Walters advanced in the 800m run with a time of 2:10.79.

The meet will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m. Eastern Standard Time, (10 a.m. Central Standard Time).
