OU - Oakland Records Three First Places Finishes on First Day of Horizon Indoor Championships

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Maggie Schneider won the 5000m in convincing fashion with a time of 17:15.96 while Whitney Mergens captured the pentathlon title with 3339 points. The distance medley team of of Heather Czarnecki, Jessica Krone, Casey Stribbell and Madison Leigh ran down first place with a time of 12:11.52 helping the women's team to first place with 59 points after the first day of action at the 2018 Horizon League Championships.
Other podium finishers for the women included Dana Tessmer who placed third in the pole vault (11 ft., 7.75 in.) and a sixth place finish for Mary Moore in the weight throw (49 ft., 9.75).
The men's team sits in third place with 35 points as Zach Stadnika placed third in the pole vault (14 ft., 3.25 in.) and currently sits in second place in the heptathlon with 2876 points with three events remaining. Brandon Davis (23 ft.) and Andrew Storm (22 ft., 9.75 in.) placed third and fourth respectively in the long jump. Tyler Beeson (54 ft., 7.25 in.) also placed fourth in the weight throw.
The second day of competition begins on Sunday, Feb. 25 at 9 a.m.
