The Hillsdale College men's track team competed on the road for the final time in the 2017-18 indoor regular season over the weekend, and sophomore Joseph Humes made sure the trek through the snow was worth it.
Humes set a new school record in the mile run Friday night at the GVSU Big Meet, hosted by Grand Valley State University. He flew around the track with a time of 4:06.11, breaking Caleb Gatchell's old record by less than a second.
But his weekend wasn't finished. Saturday, he was joined by Nathan Jones, Konnor Maloney and Adam Wade on the second-place distance medley relay team, who clocked a time of 9:53.08.
Another relay team took to the track, the 4x400 group of Wade, Jack Shelley, Evan Tandy and Alex Oquist, who finished fifth with a time of 3:24.37.
Daniel Capek notched another NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw, finishing fifth with a mark of 17.94 meters.
The Chargers are home each of the next two weekends, with the Hillsdlae Tune Up Feb. 17 and the G-MAC championships Feb. 23-24.
