GVSU Concludes Weekend Meets

The Grand Valley State track & field teams concluded its weekend meets and saw 31 NCAA qualifying marks, two automatic times, and three new records from the weekend. On Saturday's meet, the Lakers saw a combine 11 qualifying marks, along with a new school record in the men's distance medley relay.
The Laker men had seven qualifying marks on Saturday and were led by the men's DMR relay team, as they hit an automatic time and finished first with a time of 9:46.76. The team was composed of Dennis Mbuta, Jaylin Golson, Nick Salomon and Wuoi Mach, and their performance was also a men's indoor school record with a time of 9:46.76, which is also a new Kelly Family Sports Center record too. Tyler Kirkwood also hit a qualifying mark in the 60m hurdles, as he crossed the finish line at 8.21 for second place. The Lakers also had another DMR team hit a provisional mark, with Joe Renner, Andrew McFarland, Tyler Walters, and Abe Visser, as they hit a time of 10:04.22, which was the second best time in the meet. In the field events, Evan Forenberry and Jon Pung reached qualifying marks, after both cleared 4.72 meters in the pole vault. Justin Scavarda added a pair of qualifying marks in the shot put (1st, 16.88m) and the weight throw (2nd, 18.85m).
The women's saw four NCAA qualifying marks on Saturday. Angela Ritter ran a provisional time of 56.28 in the 400m dash and finished first, while the women's DMR team, which was composed of Rachel Bendewald, Chant'e Roberts, Carly Burnup and Rachael Walters placed second with a time of 11:40.03. In the throwing events, Dajsha Avery threw a qualifying mark of 13.89m in the shot put, and Brianna DeSappio hit a mark of 17.79m and placed third in the weight throw.
The Lakers's will compete again next week, as they will host the GVSU Tune-Up.
