The #13 Aquinas men's indoor track and field team recorded a fourth-place finish at the Mike Lints Alumni Open at Grand Valley State on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 27). AQ had a number of strong performances and qualifying marks at the team's third meet of the indoor season.

On Saturday, the fourth-place Saints scored 46 points to finish just in front of Davenport (45.50) and Chicago (36.50). GVSU easily won the event with 167.50 points, with Lewis (54) and St. Francis (Ill.) (53) in second and third place, respectively.

Arik LaFave (SO/Hesperia, Michigan) notched a third-place tally in the mile run with a time of 4:13.55 and Grayson Harding (SO/Grand Rapids, Michigan) placed fifth in the event at 4:16.81. LaFave's time was an automatic qualifier and is the third-fastest time in school history, while Harding's performance was a provisional qualifier.

Nate McKeown (SO/Hesperia, Michigan) used a leap of 1.96m to claim second place in the high jump. Curtis Bell (SR/Coleman, Michigan) also finished in second place in the pole vault with a height of 4.85m, clearing the height in his first attempt to break a tie with an unattached competitor.

Scott Berzley (JR/Coopersville, Michigan) also scored in the pole valut, finishing fifth at 4.70m. Like Bell, Berzley passed his height on his first attempt and was the only one of five competitors which cleared the height to do so on his first try.

John Piatek (JR/Traverse City, Michigan) posted a third-place finish in the shot put with a heave of 15.48m. Evan Pugh (SO/Venedocia, Ohio) did not score in the weight throw – he finished in ninth place – but his toss of 16.44m is the fifth-longest throw in school history.

Adam Bundy (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan) finished sixth in the 600 meter run with a time of 1:23.44. Gannon Foley (FR/Portage, Michigan) placed eighth in the 3000 meter run at 8:38.38, the fourth-fastest time in AQ history. Joey Ciaravino (JR/Harper Woods, Michigan) used a time of 15:32.51 to take sixth place in the 5000 meter run.

The 4x400 meter relay team of Brody Heitzman (JR/Grand Rapids, Michigan), Demetrius Miller, Ryan Ramey (JR/Manistique, Michigan), and Edwin Anderson (FR/Wyoming, Michigan) came in sixth place at 3:22.90.

AQ will be back at home next Friday (Feb. 2) for the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic, starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Alksnis Athletics & Recreation Building.
