Alongside a number of highly regarded Division I programs, the Hillsdale College women's track team was part of a group that opened the brand-new indoor facility at the University of Michigan at the Wolverine Invitational Saturday afternoon.
Most of the roster was in action for the Chargers in its first meet of the new calendar year. The team got a close look at some superior competition across all events, and in several, the team kept up impressively.
Distance runner teammates Hannah McIntyre and Arena Lewis finished 12th and 13th respectively in the 3000 meter run, with McIntyre finishing the race in 9:49.64. The 4x400 relay team of Victoria Wichman, Lorina Clemence, Zaloneya Eby and Ashlee Moran placed ninth with a time of 3:57.79.
A pair of field event standouts produced three top-10 finishes at the meet. Chloe Ohlgren was eighth in the long jump and sixth in the triple jump, getting her indoor season off to an excellent start. Her distance in the long jump was 5.2 meters, while she cleared 10.68 meters in the triple jump.
Rachael Tolsma, already a provisional qualifier in the weight throw, took fifth in a strong field with a mark of 17.51 meters.
Next Saturday, Hillsdale will host the first of four home indoor track meets with the Hillsdale Invitational at the Margot V. Biermann Center.
