The Hillsdale College men's track team helped to open the gorgeous new indoor track facility at the University of Michigan Saturday afternoon at the Wolverine Invitational.
The Chargers competed against some of the top competition they will see all season, with tons of Division I programs in action in Ann Arbor. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Hillsdale's top finisher at the meet was sophomore Merrick Canada, who took fifth overall in the long jump, clearing 6.61 meters. Thrower Daniel Capek took seventh in a deep weight throw event, with a mark of 16.71 meters. David Chase rounded out the top field event performances with a seventh place in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters.
Hillsdale notched three more top-10 finishes in the running events, led by an eighth place by senior Nathan Jones in the 800. He finished the race in 1:56.26.
Sophomore Joseph Humes, finally healthy after an injury-filled cross country season, was 10th in the mile run at 4:13.86. Lane White also notched a 10th place finish, coming in the 400, with a time of 51.02.
