Aquinas - LaFave and Saints Both Place Third at Bethel Invitational

The Aquinas men's cross country team finished in third place at the Bethel Invitational on Friday evening (Oct. 6) in South Bend, Ind. behind a pair of top-10 runners and four Saints in the top-30. Arik LaFave (SO/Hesperia, Mich.)'s third-place finish and Joey Ciaravino (JR/Harper Woods, Mich.) crossing the line in eighth place helped put AQ third in the 14-team field in the 8K competition.
With 92 total points, Aquinas finished well ahead of Marian (133) and Madonna (145) in fourth and fifth place, respectively. Cornerstone finished first overall with 63 points, with Taylor earning the runner-up tally of 83 points.
LaFave placed third individually with a time of 25:42.7 and was followed by Ciaravino's time of 26:00.7 and an eighth-place showing. Adam Gizowski (JR/St. Clair, Mich.) was the third Saint inside the top-20, as Gizowski crossed the line in 26:31.9 for a 19th place tally.
Gannon Foley (FR/Portage, Mich.) placed 30th overall with a time of 27:01.4 and Tyler Champenoy (SO/Fort Gratiot, Mich.) was close behind in 32nd place at 27:12.2.
Luke Simonds (JR/Grand Rapids, Mich.) came in 35th place at 27:18.9 and Angelo Leon (SO/Grand Rapids, Mich.) capped off the strong showing for the Saints with a 38th place finish in a time of 27:20.2.
Aquinas returns to action next Friday (Oct. 13) at the Muskegon Community College Invitational. The race begins at 1:30 p.m.
