LSSU - Women's Cross Country finishes 8th at Lansing Invitational

LANSING, Mich. – The Lake Superior State women's cross country, under interm head coach Rob Gallinger, competed in the Lansing Community College Invitational on Friday, October 6th. The Lady Lakers placed 8th in the field of 20 teams, collecting 268 points.
Junior Mackenzie Richardson led the Lakers with a 36th place finish in the field of 173. The native of Muskegon completed the 5,000 meter course in 20:31.3.
Sophomore Lydia Heimonen of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, finished in 59th place with a time of 21:11.2. Heimonen's time was 39 seconds shorter than her finish at the Bay College Invitational on September 30th.
Other results for the Lakers include sophomore Rebecca Lathrop (21:40.5 – 74th place), junior Trudie Mulville (21:52.6 – 81st), freshman Emily Merten (21:58.9 – 85th), junior Rachel Leggitt (22:27.9 – 96th), and sophomore Melody Perrin (23:07.3 – 112th).
Of the six Lakers who ran in both the Bay College Invitational and the LCC Invitational, five of them improved on their times at Lansing.
Conference foe Wayne State was the top team, finishing ahead of host Lansing with 58 points. Allison Dorr, who ran unattached, had the top time at 18:00.9.
Lake Superior is back in action on Saturday, October 21st, where they will compete in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Championships in Marquette, Michigan.
