HOLLAND, Mich. – The No. 11 ranked Calvin women's cross country team recorded a second-place finish at the MIAA Jamboree on a hot September Saturday. The Knights finished with 48 points. Host No. 13 Hope won with 34 points.

"I am feeling really good, said head coach Brian Diemer. "We executed the race really well in both races. Both squads executed really well, they were patient, and showed a lot of strength. We had a very nice second half of the race, in both races. In this kind of day, when it is brutally hot, you have to evaluate if it is wise to go out too soon and go after something that might become disastrous. I think that our game plan set us up for some really good races today and a chance to recover. To me, other than the placing, that is the most important thing."

Junior Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Ingelmoor) recorded the fastest time of the day in first place at 21:48.6. Diekema has now won two races this season

"I am feeling good," said Diekema. "I just ran my own race and ran steady; I had a good rhythm today. I was then able to pull it off and finish strong, even though it was hot and not the best conditions."

In the top-10 was senior Marissa McGahan (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) in eighth place at 23:13.7 and senior Catherine Croft (Grand Rapids, Mich./Coopersville) in 10th place at 23:16.4.

Finishing together was sophomore Michelle Koetje (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) in 14th place at 23:28.7 and senior Kate McLain (Kalamazoo, Mich./Kalamazoo Christian) in 15th at 23:29.1.

Rounding out the top-seven for Calvin was sophomore Leah Bishop (Grand Rapids, Mich./Grand Rapids Christian) in 21st place at 23:51.9 and junior Breanna Kooiman (Tinley Park, Ill./Chicago Christian) in 23rd place at 24:19.5.

The Knights return to action on Friday when they travel to Indiana to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational.
