HOLLAND, Mich. - The Davenport cross country teams got things underway this season at the Vanderbilt Invitational hosted by Hope College on Saturday. The men's team claimed the title and Thomas Vanslembrouck won things individually with a time of 26:31.4. His time also makes him the 7th fastest in DU history. Adam Maxwell had a big personal best to finish fourth overall. Freshman Nate Passorelli and Brad Hotovy both finished in the top 20 in their first 8K race ever.
On the women's side the team finished third. Kelli Weighmink led the Panthers with a 21 second personal best. Andrea Messing finished right behind her in her first race for DU. Stormi Samuels rounded out the top seven with a personal best by over a minute.
"It was a fun meet that really showcased all the hard work our student athletes put in over the summer. We ran some solid times on a difficult course. It was a great start to our season," said head coach Scott Cook.
