EMU - Bogdanova Earns NCAA Championship Berth in 5000m

LEXINGTON, KY. (EMUEagles.com) – The NCAA East Regional came to an end today, May 27, with the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapping up its time in Lexington, Ky. with two more competitors. Another distance runner punched her ticket to the NCAA Championships, as senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) secured a championship spot in the 5000m.
Yet another EMU distance runner had a fantastic performance, as Bogdanova qualified to the NCAA Championships for the second straight season in the 5000m by finishing in the top-five of her heat. Specifically, the Kazan, Russia native claimed second in the first heat, and ninth overall by clocking in at 16:28.20. Last season, she took 11th at the NCAA East Regional, marking an improvement of two places. Bogdanova will join fellow distance runner junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) at the national championships, as McDermitt qualified in the 10000m earlier this week.
Junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) had her best performance of the season in the triple jump. Dreimane finished third in the first flight, posting a season-best mark of 12.70 meters/ 41 feet 8-inches to claim 25th overall. The Ventspils, Latvia native was also just .10 meters away from the top-20, and .19 meters out of the top-15.
This marks the conclusion of the NCAA East Regional, with the season wrapping up in two weeks at the NCAA Championships, June 7-10, in Eugene, Oregon.
