EMU Men -Trio of Eagles Kick Off NCAA East Regional

LEXINGTON, KY. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team kicked off the NCAA East Regional today, May 25, in Lexington, Ky. A trio of Eagles represented EMU in field events throughout the rain-filled day.
In the long jump, sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) made his regional debut. Hart jumped to a seventh-place finish in the first flight, posting a mark of 7.04 meters/ 23 feet 1.25-inches, placing him 35th overall. Hart will also compete in the high jump on Saturday.
Redshirt senior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio – Sandusky) capped off his incredible EMU career with his best performance of the season in the hammer throw. Jones, competing in the first flight, launched a season-best 60.15 meters/ 197 feet 4-inches, which was good for fifth in the flight and 35th overall.
Sophomore Derek Ziegenfuss (Allentown, Pa. – Parkland) made his second appearance at the NCAA East Regional in the javelin after taking 26th last season. This time around, Ziegenfuss claimed seventh in the second flight, launching 62.19 meters/ 204 feet to finish 20th overall. In fact, the Allentown, Pa. native was just over two meters away from finishing in the top-12.
The NCAA East Regional continues tomorrow, May 26, with junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) competing in the 200m at 7:55 p.m., while a pair of distance runners will take part in the 3000m steeplechase at 9 p.m.
