ALLENDALE, Mich. — The Northern Michigan track & field team finished second in a 15-team field at the Al Owens Classic, held Friday and Saturday.

The Wildcats posted 16 top-five finishes to total 102.50 points and best six GLIAC squads in their final meet before the conference championships.

"The team had a lot of great performances today," said head coach Jenny Ryan. "It was nice to see some GLIAC teams and have tough competition at this meet. We're looking strong going into the conference championships in less than two weeks."

Kameron Burmeister took first in the 5,000-meter run, clocking in at 17:21.99. Kieren Becker (800-meter run), Samanthia Johnson (discus throw) and Ine Mylle (triple jump) finished second in their respective events.

Becker recorded two NCAA provisional times. She improved her mark in the 800-meter run (2:12.20) and set one in the 1,500-meter run (4:32.35).

Host Grand Valley State was the team champion with 194.50 points. Siena Heights rounded out the top three with 95.75.

The GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships is scheduled for May 3-5 in Grand Rapids, Mich.
