LSSU - Lakers win three events at FSU

BIG RAPIDS - Lake Superior State recorded three first-place finishes and 14 top-10 finishes at Saturday's Bulldog Invitational hosted by Ferris State.
Oshane Thomas won the men's 200-meter dash in :22.08, and Roger Willford took the men's pole vault after clearing 4.25 meters. Garrett Smith claimed the men's 5,000-meter run in 15:15.96, while Thomas VanSlembrouck was sixth, Parker Wyngaard seventh and Ryan Rogers 12th as the Lakers made a strong showing in the event.
Jack Miles placed second in the men's 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:05.83, and teammate Dylan Richards was 11th in 10:05.27. Spencer Montcastle finished seventh in the 400-meter dash (:51.61), and was followed by Yazin Joseph, who was ninth (:51.77).
Adam Birkeland placed 15th in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:08.98. Travis Sutton was 22nd in the 800-meter run (2:06.85). In the men's field events, Kye Heimonen took fourth in the javelin throw (:45.61) and Montcastle seventh (:44.51). Cole VanOostern was eighth in the shot put (13.38 meters) and discus throw (42.50 meters).
Sarah Swider led the LSSU women's team by placing fifth in the long jump (4.98 meters) and seventh in the high jump (1.50 meters). Taylor Watson was 11th in the javelin throw (22.64 meters) and Kayli Fyke 14th in the shot put (8.37 meters).
Pacing the Lakers in the women's running events was Jessica Schmidt, who finished 13th in the 100-meter dash (:14.12) and 23rd in the 200-meter dash (:2.91).
Rebecca Lathrop was 13th in the 800-meter run in 2:34.10. In the women's 5,000-meter run, Hannah Passino was 13th (19:58.73), Kelly MacKenzie 14th (20:00.88) and Trudie Mulville 16th (20:20.86).
