EMU Women - Green and White Complete Day Two in Knoxville

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up day two of competition at the Tennessee Relays, Friday, April 7. The second day saw a majority of track events take place, in addition to the second half of the heptathlon.
Sophomore Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) had a strong race in the 100m dash, crossing the finish line in a career-best 11.91 seconds to take 12th. Just a few spots behind her, freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio – West Geauga) snagged 15th after posting a time of 12.03 seconds. Harris also led the squad in the 200m dash, finishing 22nd in 24.76 seconds, while junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) took 23rd in 24.77.
A trio of Eagles participated in the 400m dash, with Jones turning in the best performance for EMU. The junior was able to take 14th with a time of 56.03 seconds, while senior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. – Irvington) crossed the finish line in 21st after posting a time of 57.24. Just one spot behind her, freshman Micah Johnston took 22nd after clocking in at 58.12 seconds.
Junior Rebekah Branham (Circleville, Ohio – Circleville) paced the Green and White in the 800m, ultimately taking 14th with a time of 2:14.18. Additionally, junior Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill. – Rockford Lutheran) ran as well, tallying a 20th-place finish in 2:16.75. Sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. – Zionsville Community) was the lone Eagle taking part in the 1500m run. Meyers ran to a 19th-place finish, clocking in at 4:34.69, which was just a few seconds shy of her career-best.
In the 5000m, senior Anna Aldrich (Fremont, Ind. – Fremont) had a career day, as she finished 10th after posting a personal-best time of 17:00.88. In fact, that time put her at No. 9 in the EMU record books. In the 400m hurdles, seniors Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson) James represented the Green and White. James turned in a top-10 finish, as she took ninth with a career-best time of 1:02.23, while Hurd snagged 14th in 1:04.22.
Eastern secured a top-five finish in the pole vault, as senior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio – Fairmont) snagged fifth-place with a vault of 3.85 meters/ 12 feet 7.5-inches. In the long jump, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) was able to finish in the top-10, taking seventh-place after notching a jump of 5.94 meters/ 19 feet 6-inches.
Freshman Gianna Salzbrunn (North Aurora, Ill. – Montini Catholic) completed the heptathlon after finishing the first half of the events yesterday. Day two saw the freshman take part in the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m. In the long jump, Salzbrunn took 12th-place after posting a mark of 4.84 meters/ 15 feet 10.5-inches, while she also took 10th in the javelin with a mark of 28.51 meters/ 93 feet 6-inches. Her best finish of the day came in the 800m run, where the North Aurora, Ill. native took third after clocking in at 2:30.02. With all seven events complete, Salzbrunn finished 10th with a total of 3822 points.
The Eagles wrap up the Tennessee Relays tomorrow, April 8, beginning at 10 a.m with the women's discus. The men will start at 11 a.m. with the men's invite pole vault, while running events will be kicked off by the women's 4x200m relay at noon.
