EMU men - Hart Finishes Second in High Jump on Final Day in Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team concluded the Tennessee Relays, Saturday, April 8, with the final day of competition. The highlight of the day came in the high jump, where the Eagles secured a second-place finish.

The Eagles had a strong showing in the 4x100m relay, as the team of freshman Sean Beckom (Saginaw, Mich. – Heritage), junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson), redshirt senior Nick James (Troy, Ohio – Troy), and sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) finished fourth. The group was able to secure a time of 41.11 seconds, which just under a second away from third.

The Green and White also nabbed a pair of seventh-place finishes in the 4x400m and 4x800m relays. In the 4x400, sophomore Elijah Barber (Columbus, Ohio – Eastmoor Academy), redshirt senior Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich. – Farmington), freshman Trevor Marcus (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome), and Underwood clocked in at 3:15.08. The 4x800m relay saw junior Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary - Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium), redshirt junior Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich. – Owosso), and freshmen Dan Kuhn (Erie, Pa. – Harbor Creek) and Roderic Wilson (Atlanta, Ga. – Blanche Ely) post a time of 7:51.00.

Sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) continued his strong year in the high jump, as he secured a runner-up finish in the event. Specifically, Hart was able to post a personal-best outdoor mark of 2.07 meters/ 6 feet 9.5-inches. The triple jump saw fellow sophomore Micah Peters (Yorn, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) turn in an 11th-place finish, as he notched a mark of 14.11 meters/ 46 feet 3.5-inches.

Finally, Eastern had a pair of throwers compete in the discus. Freshman Jannik Schmitt (Plymouth, Mich. – Salem) led the way, as he secured a 14th-place finish with a personal-best throw of 45.66 meters/ 149 feet 10-inches. Additionally, redshirt sophomore Austin Hazek (Medina, Ohio – Medina) nabbed 16th after throwing 38.29 meters/ 125 feet 7-inches.

Next week, the Green and White will split up again for a pair of meets. Some of the team will head to California, April 13-15, while others will remain closer to home and travel to Rochester, Mich. for the Oakland Invitational, April 15.
