STANFORD, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team had a small contingent of distance runners compete at the Stanford Invitational, Friday, March 31, in California. The Eagles had a strong showing, as two runners posted marks that fall in the top-10 of the EMU record books.
At the Stanford Invitational, the Eagles had a trio of distance runners compete in the 5000m. Redshirt juniors Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge) and Lahsene Bouchikhi (Antwerp, Belgium - Stedelijk Lyceum Paardenmarkt Luchthaven) had particularly strong days. Andresson paced the three Eagles, as he turned in a personal-best time of 14:00.83, which was also the seventh-best time in program history, to put him in third of section three. Not only was Andresson's time a personal-best and one of the best in EMU history, but it also broke the Icelandic outdoor 5000m record.
Additionally, Bouchikhi crossed the finish line with a career-best time of 14:06.12 to finish second in section four. Like Andresson, Bouchikhi's time was also one of the best in the EMU record books, as it currently ranks as the 10th-best outdoor 5000m time in program history. Rounding out the trio was fellow redshirt junior Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason), who crossed the finish line in 14:25.88 to secure an 11th-place finish in section four. Redshirt senior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio – Maumee) took part in the meet as well, running in the 10000m. In fact, Fink competed in the very last event of the day, and he capped it off with an 11th-place finish after clocking in at 29:18.55.
The Green and White will head to another big meet next week, as the squad will travel south to Knoxville, Tenn. for the Tennessee Relays, April 6-8.
