FINDLAY, Ohio - Lake Superior State's Oshane Thomas placed 10th in the 400-meter dash preliminaries and was disqualified in the 200-meter dash during Saturday's first day of competition at the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the University of Findlay.

Thomas, who is ranked sixth nationally in the 200, clocked a :49.92 in the 400. Another standout LSSU sprinter, Yazin Joseph, placed 13th in the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries in :08.68.

Other LSSU highlights from Day 1 included Thomas VanSlembrouck's 20th-place finish in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:45.33 and the Laker men's distance medley relay's eighth-place finish. Cole VanOosten was 16th in the weight throw (16.45 meters) and Zach Cameron was 22nd (13.40 meters).

Halfway through the men's heptathlon, LSSU freshman Roger Willford is sixth with 2,416 points. His best finish of the day was a fifth in the high jump (1.82 meters).
