WMU - Broncos Dominate at Ball State Quad Meet

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Western Michigan track team traveled to Ball State and went 3-0 in a four-team dual meet against the host Cardinals, IPFW and Wright State on Friday evening.

WMU defeated Wright State 115-54, downed IPFW 119.50 and defeated Ball State 110-59. Broncos took home nine event titles on the night as well.

"This meet has always been good to us," said head coach Kelly Lycan. "With our training cycle by this time of the year we always tend to run really fast and throw it really far."

Junior Savannah Dugan and redshirt freshman Gabrielle Collins both won two events on the night. Dugan took first place in the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put she threw a personal-best distance of 46' 5.25", while she threw 54' 2" to claim the weight throw title. Teammate Brittany Casey scored in both events as well, taking third in the shot put and second in the weight throw.

Collins won both the long jump and the triple jump. She jumped a distance of 18' 8" in the long jump, beating teammate Diana Holsey by only 2.75 inches. In the triple jump she recorded a huge personal-best distance of 38' 6" in the win.

WMU won every sprint race, claiming titles in the 60-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashes. Seniors Naiomi Dulaney and Sarita Dotson took first and second in the 60-meter dash. Dulaney ran a time of 7.67 seconds and edged out Dotson by 7.68. Dotson got her revenge and won the 200 with a time of 24.82, while Dulaney took third at 25.21.

Lindsey Hufnagel won the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.65 seconds, edging out teammate Davonne Bolden. Redshirt freshman Sarah Anderson claimed first place in the 800-meter run after a personal-best time of 2:13.88.

Hanne Christensen and Amy Littlefield took second and third place in the mile run. Christensen was the top finisher for WMU with a time of 5:09.44, while Littlefield was right behind her at 5:13.80.

Up next for Western Michigan is the 2017 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships at Eastern Michigan on Friday and Saturday.
