Aquinas College - Trio Pace Saints at NAIA Nationals

The trio of Tom Willet (SR/Sparta, Mich.), Joey Ciaravino (SO/Harper Woods, Mich.), and Arik LaFave (FR/Hesperia, Mich.) all turned in personal best performances at today's NAIA Cross Country Championships in Elsah, Illinois. The meet was contested on the grounds of the North Farm Cross Country Course at Principia College. Overall the Saints finished in 22nd place to conclude the 2016 season.
Southern Oregon claimed their second ever team title as they totaled 122 points. The Saints, who were competing in their 17th straight championship, tallied 491 points. Fellow WHAC members Cornerstone (8th - 315), Indiana Tech (25th - 560), and Siena Heights (29th - 787) also competed at the championships. The meet was highlighted by the gutty performance of senior Tom Willet. Willet, a native of Sparta, placed 35th in a time of 25:19 to lead Aquinas through the chute. The Saints also received strong performances from Ciaravino and LaFave. Joey placed 79th and clocked in at 25:52, while the rookie, LaFave, crossed the line at 25:54 to finish in 84th place. Rounding out the scoring for the Saints was Adam Gizowski (SO/St. Clair, Mich.) (227th - 26:56) and Tyler Champenoy (FR/Fort Gratiot, Mich.) (228th - 26:56). Also competing for the Saints was Gabe Kuyten (SO/Holland, Mich.) (250th - 27:04) and Trevor Thiebaut (JR/Cadillac, Mich.) (276th - 27:38).
