GVSU - Laker Cross Country Teams Place First, Sixth at Greater Louisville Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Grand Valley State cross country teams competed at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning against a field of largely Division I teams and came away with positive results.
The second-ranked Laker men were able to place first as a team with 82 points, defeating second-place Middle Tennessee State by 18 points in the Gold race with all of the runners placing inside the top-100 in a race that consisted of over 300 runners. GVSU's men placed four men inside the top 25, a number matched only by Virginia Tech at the meet.
Sophomore Zach Panning followed up his win at the Spartan Invitational last week with a fourth place finish at the Greater Louisville Classic with a time of 23:43.63. Senior Chris May came in ninth with a time of 24:09.49. Rounding out the top-20 for the Laker men was Wuoi Mach, who placed 19th with a time of 24:28.83.
Also running for the GVSU men were Nate Orndorf (21st; 24:30.36), Trevor Sharnas (33rd; 24:42.64), Bryce Bradley (43rd; 24:52.25), Kevin Black (46th; 24:54.92), Alberto Gomez (78th; 25:13.62), Ethan Davenport (84th; 25:22.64), and Mitch Wilkins (89th; 25:25.27).
The first-ranked GVSU women placed sixth in the team standings with 260 points in the Greater Louisville Classic Gold race. Kendra Foley posted another impressive performance following up her Spartan Invitational first-place finish that earned her Division II Athlete of the Week honors two weeks ago. Foley placed ninth in the 5k race posting a time of 17:07.70.
The next three finishers for the Laker women were Gina Patterson in 52nd with a time of 17:44.00, Kelly Haubert in 54th with a time of 17:45.00, and Stacey Metzger in 56th with a time of 17:45.90.
Also running for the GVSU women were Rachel Bendewald (103rd; 18:08.40), Theresa Mueller (108th; 18:10.60), Alison Work (127th; 18:16.80), Amy Creutz (134th; 18:18.90), and Allie Ludge (135th; 18:19.60).
The Grand Valley State cross country teams will continue their schedule at the Lansing Community College Invitational and the Conference Crossover on October 7th and 8th.
