LOUISVILLE, Ky. (10/1/2016) -- Junior Ben Kendell broke the Titans all-time 8k mark as the University of Detroit Mercy men's cross country team competed in the 15th Annual Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday.

The 8k race was hosted by the Louisville Sports Commission at E.P Tom Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky, with the Titans tallying 775 points for 31st.

Kendell was not only in the top 10 for the third-straight week, but he broke his own school course record finishing 10th in a career-best 24:15. The previous Titan 8k record was 24:32 by Patrick Liederbach at the 2010 Horizon League Championship.

Senior Austin Wigent posted a season-low 26:16 for 172nd, while junior Charlie Felton just missed his personal record clocking 26:23 for 179th. Freshmen James McCann and Scott Smith each had season lows recording 26:48 and 26:49, respectively.

The Titans will be idle next week before returning to action at the Canisius Alumni Classic on Oct. 15.

Here is a recap of the action at today's race:

The veterans were atop the leaderboard for the Titans as junior Ben Kendell led the team for the third time this season and senior Austin Wigent and junior Charlie Felton were among the top three for the first time this year.

Kendell beat his previous 8k time by 26 seconds in the 26:41 he ran at last year's Horizon League Championship.

He also bested his course record by 31 seconds over the 24:46 he ran at last year's GLC event.

Kendell how has collective efforts of first, second and 10th in his three races this season.

He also has 10 career sub-26 minute runs in the 8k, fourth in school history behind only Ken Dubois '87 (20), Chris McPhee '01 (13) and Patrick Liederbach '10 (13).

Wigent shaved almost two minutes off his season 8k time of 27:55 that he ran at Notre Dame two weeks ago.

Felton might have posted the best 8k turnaround in school history going from 29:04 at Notre Dame two weeks ago to 26:23 today, missing his PR by five seconds from the 26:18 at the 2015 Canisius Alumni Classic.

McCann lowered his 8k season time from 27:31 at Notre Dame to today's 26:48, while Smith lowered his from 27:57 at Notre Dame to 26:49 at the GLC.

Three other freshmen had season lows in the 8k as Adam Fraeyman finished in 27:00, Santana Scott ran a 27:08 and Brendan McClanahan posted a 27:41, while junior Greg Ingle had a season-best 27:47.
