Alma, Mich. - The Alma College women's cross country team ran on its home course for the first time in five years on Saturday (Sept. 24), placing fourth at the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Jamboree. Calvin College won the event, while Hope College and Albion College placed second and third, respectively.

Senior Kaitlyn Arnold (Jackson, Mich./Northwest) and Hope's Erin Herrmann battled down the final straightaway, with Herrmann edging out the victory with a time of 21:21.4. Arnold finished second in 21:25.3, while Calvin's Lauren Strohben placed third in 21:40.1.

"I hope the crowd enjoyed the race they were treated to up front," Head Coach Matt Chovanec said. "That was a great battle between Kaitlyn (Arnold) and Erin (Herrmann). It should be a lot of fun to see them do it again in the future."

Junior Hannah Garn (Charlotte, Mich./Charlotte) led the next group of Alma runners with a 24th-place finish in 23:52.9, while sophomore Mallory Munderloh (St. Louis, Mich./St. Louis) and junior Chelse Van Spronsen (Jenison, Mich./Jenison) were 26th and 29th, respectively.

"It was a great effort from our women's team and they handled their first 6k of the season very well," Chovanec said. "To place in the top four in the MIAA meet is a great start to the season. We just need to continue to build off of that and realize there is still room for improvement."

The Scots have a week off before participating in the Lansing Invitational on Friday, Oct. 7.
