Recent Hillsdale College graduate Emily Oren has taken her place as one of the most highly decorated ahtletes not just in school history, but in GLIAC history. Tuesday afternoon, she earned another prestigious award.
Oren was named the Division II Female Athlete of the Year by the Division 2 Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA). The men's winner of the award is Ferris State's Jason VanderLaan, giving the GLIAC a sweep of these prestigious national awards for 2015-16.
"Once again we had an outstanding roster of nominees for the Division II Scholar-Athletes of the Year Award - young men and women who achieved at high levels both in their sports and in the classroom," said D2 CCA President Bob Dranoff, commissioner of the East Coast Conference. "Congratulations to Emily and Jason on receiving this prestigious honor. They are, along with all our nominees, great representatives of NCAA Division II."
This award takes its place on a very crowded shelf of trophies Oren earned during a record-setting senior season. Back in June, she was named the winner of the Honda Cup for Division II athletes, signifying her place as the top overall female student-athlete in all of NCAA Division II. She won seven individual national championships in her career, and nine total. Oren helped lead the Charger women's track and cross country teams to six top-eight finishes in NCAA national competition since the Fall of 2014.
