Cornerstone U - Day one concludes at T&F Outdoor Nationals

GULF SHORES, Ala. – The opening day of the 2016 NAIA Outdoor Track & Field National Championships saw nine Golden Eagles in competition as both 4x800 relays as well as Audrey Tremaine (SR/Jackson, Mich.) in the 1,500m. Cornerstone will resume action on Friday with the Racewalk and Kevin Vroegh (SO/Dyer, Ind.) in the 800m. Action is being streamed live on naianetwork.com.
Audrey Tremaine made her last appearance in a CU Track & Field uniform as the senior posted a 23rd place finish in the 1,500m race. Tremaine finished with a time of 4:45.76.
The action then turned towards the relays as each the women and men entered a mark in the 4x800.
The women started it off with a time of 9:29.33 behind the quartet of Megan Quick (SO/Harrisville, Mich.), Cathy Coryell (JR/Hamilton, Mich.), Val Richter (FR/St. Charles, Ill.) and Ally Rabe (SO/Portage, Mich.). The time was good for a final place of 18th.
The men finished the night with a time of 7:56.85 as the team of Joey DeBoer, Elijah Vandervelde, Thomas Bambach and Kevin Vroegh finished in 15th place.
Day two will start at 3:20 p.m. EST for the Golden Eagles with Kevin Vroegh in the 800m. Then, CU will have five participants in the 3000m race Walk – Kayla Hunt (SR/Cedar Springs, Mich.), Melissa Manlan (SR/Kalamazoo, Mich.), Bailey Brogan (JR/Kalamazoo, Mich.), Sam Elmi (FR/Traverse City, Mich.) and Nate Vanderwall (SR/Byron Center).
