CMU's Dutkiewicz Advances To Quarterfinals

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Ziemowit Dutkiewicz qualified for the quarterfinals in the men's 400-meter hurdles Thursday, leading the Central Michigan track & field team in the NCAA East Preliminary at North Florida's Hodges Stadium.
Dutkiewicz, a junior, was clocked at 51.73 seconds, the 16th-best time in the event. The top 24 advanced to the quarterfinals, which are scheduled to begin at 7:45 p.m. Friday.
Dutkiewicz was one of seven Chippewas to compete on Thursday. None finished among the top 12 in their respective event. The top 12 each event advance to the NCAA Championships June 8-11 at the University of Oregon.
CMU's Cole Walderzak finished 20th in the men's hammer throw with a toss measuring 210 feet, 6 inches, while Kylee Dobbelaere placed 26th in the women's hammer throw (184-11).
The Chippewas' Sam Wagner and Kelly Schubert both placed 34th -- Wagner in the men's pole vault (16-4 ¾), Schubert in the women's 10,000-meter run (36 minutes, 3.79 seconds). CMU's Kyleigh Young finished 39th in the women's javelin (129-11).
Four Chippewas are scheduled to compete along with Dutkiewicz on Friday. Walderzak and Dylan Banagis are scheduled to compete in the men's discus, Shane Moffo will run in a first-round race in the men's 110-meter hurdles, and Alyssa Dyer will partake in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase.
On Saturday, the Chippewas' Devene Brown, Kevin Weiler and Jake Peister are slated to compete -- Brown in the women's shot put, Weiler in the men's shot put, and Peister in the men's triple jump.
