DETROIT (4/17/16) – The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field team performed well from both the Bison Outdoor Classic and the Golden Grizzly Invite on Saturday.

The team split, with long distance runners heading to the Bison Outdoor Classic at Bucknell and most of the team heading to the Golden Grizzly Invite at Oakland.


Sydnie Fetherolf led off action at the Bison Outdoor Classic with a 19th-place 4:46.82 in the 1500-meter run, the ninth-best time in the Titan record book.

Taylor Smith finished 45th in 5000-meter run at 18:49.66, while Jennifer Ponkowski finished 62nd in 5000-meter run at 19:23.76.

Devon Sutton crushed her previous personal record with a 37:11.19 time in the 10,000-meter run. Sutton's mark is the second-best time in Detroit history.


Despite splitting the squad on Saturday, the Detroit women managed 30 points on the day to finish fifth. The Detroit men and women combined to finish fourth with 115 total points.

In the 4x100-meter relay, A.J. Carnathan, Jayona Dent, Natalie Vizard and Allison Garner placed fifth at 47.49. The mark is the fourth-best time in the Detroit record book.

The foursome of Jessica Doherty, Brogan Holmes, Dozier and Alyson Hamilton finished just behind in sixth at 48.45, the 11th-best time in program history.

Senior Aisha Potts-Tyre finished eighth in the 100-meter hurdles at 14.90, followed by Natalie Peterson and Paige Anderson in 18th and 19th, respectively.

Freshman Kye Dozer finished fifth in the 400-meter dash to earn four points for the Titans with a time of 57.21, the fastest rookie time in the Titan record book. Meanwhile, Dent (58.22) and Vizard (58.52) finished just out of the points in ninth and 10th.

Holmes placed 15th in the 100-meter hurdles at 1:00.72, followed by Elizabeth Mullen in 16th at 1:03.07.

In the 100-meter dash, Garner earned four points with a fifth-place time of 12.26. Hamilton finished just outside the scoring range with a ninth-place personal record time of 12.39. Carnathan finished close behind in 12th at 12.49.

Samantha Zakalowski earned five points in the 800-meter run after a fourth-place pace of 2:19.96. Haley Morairty also earned a point after clocking in at 2:24.74, the eighth-best mark in the field.

The Titans earned seven points in the 400-meter hurdles, with Grace Battista's 1:09.37 and Anderson's 1:11.95.

Holmes led the way for Detroit in the 200-meter dash, finishing 13th at 25.90. Dent finished just behind at 25.92, followed by Garner at 26.32, Hamilton at 26.63 and Carnathan at 26.87.

Sydney Shaw led Detroit in the 5000-meter run with a time of 21:00.29 to earn two points.

Delaney O'Rourke earned a point in the shot put after clearing 11.51 meters.

Potts-Tyre earned a pair of points in the long jump after a seventh-place mark of 5.02 meters.
