Calvin Women's Track and Field Has Winning Performances at Millikin University Big Blue Invitational

DECATUR, Il. - The Calvin women's track and field team had a solid day at the Millikin University Big Blue Invitational on Saturday.
Sophomore Jenna Dyksen (Hawthorne, NJ/Hawthorne HS) had a huge day, winning the triple jump (35-9 1/4) while placing second in the 400 meter hurdles (1:05.65). Dyksen led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the triple jump as junior Carissa Weis (Mt. Prospect, Il./Mt. Prospect HS) was second (35-1) while senior Ayooluwa Ayoola (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was third (34-11 1/4).
In the women's 5,000 meters, Calvin went 1-3-4 led by junior Lauren Strohbehn (Stillwater, MN/St. Croix Preparatory HS) who took first place in a season-best time of 17:40.70. Freshman Katie Diekema (Kenmore, Wash./Ingelmoor HS) was third in a season-best time of 17:58.61 while junior Hope Gaffner (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) was fourth (18:06.94).
The steeplechase also proved to be a highlight for Calvin as senior McKenzie Diemer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) took second in a time of 11:06.29 that places her 10th on the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field performance list. Sophomore Marissa McGahan was third in a time of 12:19.60.
In the 1,500 meters, sophomore Caroline Boss (Charlevoix/Charlevoix HS) took second in a time of 4:54.71 while freshman Lindsey Fox (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was fifth (5:02.47).
In the 100 meter hurdles, senior Maria Steblay (Eden Prairie, MN/Eden Prairie HS) was second (16.42) while freshman Madison Orth (Soldotna, AK/Cook Inlet Academy) was fourth (16.65).
Also taking fifth in the 400 meter hurdles was senior Kally Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) in a time of 1:08.00.
In the pole vault, freshman Annalane Miller (Dexter/Dexter HS) took fifth with a vault of 9-2 1.4. In the shot put, sophomore Bethany Love (Kentwood/East Kentwood HS) took second with a throw of 40-7 1/4. Junior Michaela Meckes (Bay City/Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS) was fifth in the discus (128-10).
Calvin's 4x100 meter relay team of Dyksen, sophomore Anita VanderMeulen (Ann Arbor/Ann Arbor Skyline HS), freshman Selvi Bunce (Savage, Mn./Burnsville HS) took third in a time of 50.05. Calvin's 4x400 meter relay team of Boss, Bunce, VandeMeulen and Verkaik took fourth in a time of 4:14.09.
Calvin is back in action on April 16 when it competes at the Siena Heights Don Kleinow Invitational.
