MSU - Three Spartans Earn Bids to NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships

EAST LANSING, Mich. - A trio of Spartans have earned bids to the 2016 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Alabama, from March 11-12.
Michigan State will be represented by a pair of weight throwers on the men’s side in junior Vinny Gjokaj and senior Connor Kostrzewa. Gjokaj enters the championships with a season best of 21.63m recorded at the Notre Dame Invite on Jan. 23. Gjokaj has placed inside the top five at five events, including tallying an event win at the Notre Dame Invite. He finished eighth at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Kostrzewa has a recorded a lifetime best of 21.45m at the Big Ten Indoor Championships, which earned him third and a spot on the podium. He has placed inside the top three at every event he has entered this season except for the Meyo Invite on Feb. 5 and has two events titles. Gjokaj enters the competition No. 12, while Kostrzewa is No. 15.
Sophomore high jumper Ellen DiPietro earned a spot at the championships with a clearance of 1.83m at the GVSU Holiday Open on Dec. 4. The effort was a lifetime best. DiPietro has cleared 1.80m on two occasions this season, the second coming at the Notre Dame Invite. She goes to Birmingham ranked No. 13 in the high jump.
ESPN3 will stream the meet live on March 11 starting at 6:25 p.m. ET and March 12 starting at 4:55 p.m. A re-air of the championship will take place on Sunday, March 13 starting at 7 p.m. on ESPN2 and also Wednesday, March 23 starting at 10 p.m. on ESPNU.
