UDM - Women's Track & Field Picks Up Seven Top-10s at GVSU Tune-Up

ALLENDALE, Mich. (2/19/16) - The University of Detroit Mercy women's track and field teams returned to competition Friday for the last regular-season indoor meet of the season and performed well with seven top-10 finishers at the GVSU Tune-Up.
Devon Sutton won the second heat and set a personal record in the mile run after crossing the finish line in 5:21.64. Taylor Smith finished second in heat two after a season-best mark of 5:25.57. Sydnie Fetherolf also set a season-best in the mile with a 5:20.03 time, followed by Katie Lyons with a personal record 5:49. Fetherolf, Sutton and Smith placed 12th, 13th and 14th respectively overall.
In the 800-meter run, Samantha Zakalowski finished sixth with a time of 2:16.76, while Haley Morairty checked in at 11th with a mark of 2:23.29.
Elizabeth Mullen and Grace Battista each set personal records in the 400-meter dash, with Mullen clocking in at 59.34 in seventh and Battista finishing 11th in 62.51.
Jayona Dent finished fifth in the 60-meter dash finals after hitting the 8.00 mark and added a second top-five placement after finishing the 200-meter dash in 26.10, good for fifth place.
Alyson Hamilton finished 11th in the 200-meter dash at 27.16, with Natalie Peterson following right behind in 12th at 28.07.
In the 4x400-meter relay, the quartet of Kye Dozier, Brogan Holmes, Mullen and Natalie Vizard crossed the line in third place with a time of 3:53.24. The grouping of Battista, Zakalowski, Morairty and Hamilton finished fifth with a time of 4:14.65.
Freshman Delaney O'Rourke earned a sixth-place finish in shot put after clearing 11.28 meters, while Peterson recorded a season-best 9.65 in the 60-meter hurdles.
The Titans return to action next weekend for the Horizon League Indoor Championships from Youngstown State University. The two-day event will span Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 27-28, from the Watson and Tressell Training Site.
