ALLENDALE, Mich. & AMES, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team turned in a stellar first day of competition at both the GVSU Big Meet and the Iowa State Classic today, Feb. 12. In Ames, Iowa, sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) turned in the greatest 5000m time in program history, clocking in at a blazing 15:58.18 and shattering her old personal-best. She now controls the record by nearly 30 seconds, and currently sits at No. 6 nationally in the event. Additionally, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) ran in the 3000m, taking home the gold with a time of 9:16.91, setting a career-best. Senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - University of Leuven) finished third in the event as well with a personal-best time of 9:18.41.

At the GVSU Big Meet, freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) paced the Eagles in the 60m, qualifying for the finals with a personal-best time of 7.59. In the finals, she finished with the same time again, ultimately taking home third. Additionally, two other Eagles turned in career-bests in the event as well. In the 200m dash, the Green and White found similar success, as sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) nabbed fourth-place by crossing the finish line in 24.62.

Jones led the team in the 400m dash as well, clocking in at 56.66, a personal-best, to take 11th-place. Like the 60m dash, two more Eagles also turned in the best times of their career.
