EMU - Eagles Conclude Meyo Invitational

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team finished up the Meyo Invitational today, Feb. 6. The team nabbed a number of career-bests, and was highlighted by a top-five finish in the 400m.
Qualifying to the semifinals in the 60m dash, freshman Aitor Ekobo (Madrid, Spain – Jose Luis Lopez Aranguren Secondary School) took home ninth, clocking in at 6.94. Moving to the 400m dash, junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio – Findlay) took home a top-five finish, placing fifth with a time of 47.15.
Both runners in the 800m turned in solid performances, with senior Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich. – Lakeview) pacing the duo with an 11th place finish and a time of 1:51.36. Just behind him was sophomore Csaba Matko (Racalmas, Hungary – Szechenyi Istvan Gimnazium) in 22nd, clocking in at 1:53.32. The lone EMU finisher in the mile was redshirt freshman Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. – Hillsborough), who turned in a career-best time of 4:15.72.
The Eagles had a strong showing in the 3000m, with redshirt sophomore Nick Raymond (Erie, Mich. – Mason) leading the way. Raymond finished 16th, crossing the finish line in 8:15.07, while fellow redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland – Mountain Ridge) nabbed 27th with a time of 8:18.98. Another redshirt sophomore, Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. – River Falls), also had a nice day, turning in a career-best time of 8:19.05.
Moving to the 4x400m relay, the group of seniors Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. – Grater Latrobe Senior), Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis. – Bradford), Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif. – Vista Del Lago), and Brown managed to finish eighth, clocking in at 3:12.88. Senior Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio – Fairfield Senior) then followed up with another eight-place finish, turning in a time of 8.15 in the semifinals of the 60m hurdles.
In the jumps, redshirt junior Zach Waldron (Grand Rapids, Mich. – Northview) and freshman Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) finished 11th and 15th in the high jump, respectively. Waldron's mark came in at 2.02 meters/ 6 feet 7.50-inches. In the triple jump, freshman Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) turned in a 12th-place finish, jumping 13.90 meters/ 45 feet 7.25-inches.
Rounding out the Eagle performances on the day was the shot put, where junior Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio – River Valley) took 11th with a throw of 16.73 meters/ 54 feet 10.75-inches. Just behind him was redshirt senior Keith Williams (Sherman, Ill. – Williamsville) with a mark of 16.48m/ 54 feet 1-inch. Sophomore Mike Hierholzer (Medina, Ohio – Medina) turned in a career-best throw with a mark of 16.36 meters/ 53 feet 8.25-inches as well.
The Eagles will continue their season on the road at two meets. Part of the team will travel to Allendale, Mich. For the GVSU Big Meet, Feb. 12, while others will
attend the Iowa State Classic, Feb. 12-13, in Ames, Iowa.
