EMU Men - Track and Field Recognized in USTFCCCA Preseason Event Rankings

NEW ORLEANS, La. (EMUEagles.com) -- Following one weekend of competition in early December, the Eastern Michigan University track & field team was recognized in the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Preseason Event Rankings. Four different student-athletes, as well as the 4x400 relay team, earned a top-25 ranking in their respective events based on the top marks of the recent NCAA indoor track & field seasons, as well as the top marks of the current season.
Junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio - Findlay) comes in slotted seventh in the 400m preseason rankings. His scored performance came from last season at the Notre Dame Invite, Jan. 24, where he crossed the finish line in a scorching 46.26 seconds. In addition to Brown, fellow junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) is ranked in both the 3,000 meters and the 5,000 meters. The Maumee, Ohio native sits in 19th in both the 3,000 and the 5,000. The 4x400 relay team occupies the 21st spot in the preseason rankings as well, with their scored performance coming at the Meyo Invite, Feb. 7. The group was comprised of Cameron Bolton, and seniors Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. - Greater Latrobe Senior), Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif. - Vista Del Lago), and Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis. - Bradford).
Redshirt junior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio - Sandusky) is set to begin the year ranked tenth in the weight throw with a scored mark of 21.39 meters/ 70 feet 2.25-inches. This toss came at the Elite Throws Competition, Jan. 30, and is currently the EMU program record. Rounding out the Eagles in the rankings is redshirt senior Solomon Simmons (Murrieta, Calif. - Murrieta Valley) in the heptathlon, ranked 22nd. Simmons' scored performance occurred at the 2015 Indoor Mid-American Conference Championships, Feb. 27-28, where the Murrieta, Calif. native finished with a mark of 5,444 points. Simmons' mark from the event is also the best in program history.
The Eagles are set to continue their season at home with the EMU Triangular, Jan. 23, in Bowen Field House. Following their only home meet of the season, the Green and White will head to University Park, Pa. for the Penn State National, Jan. 29-30.
