WMU - Maria McDaniel takes first, Broncos fall to EMU

KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Western Michigan women's cross country team fell to Eastern Michigan 21-36 at the 2015 George Dales Invitational at the Pine View Golf Club in Three Rivers, Mich. Maria McDaniel won the 6k race with a time of 20:33.80 edging out EMU's Jordann McDermitt who took second place with a time of 20:54.24. This is McDaniel's fifth top-three finish and third career win in her career as a Bronco. McDaniel was named the Mid-American Conference Female Runner of the Week last week.
This is the sixth consecutive year the Eagles won the invite as McDaniel snapped EMU's streak of four straight individual champions.
EMU claimed four of the top five spots as WMU freshman Sarah Anderson placed sixth (22:04.70), sophomore Hanne Christensen placed eighth (22:17.71), sophomore Claire Gilbert placed ninth (22:20.02), and senior Ann Marie Areseau came in 12th (23:09.90) to round out the Broncos top-five finishers.
Junior Daya Wagh placed 13th (23:09.90), freshman Renee Letz took 16th (23:36.79), Amy Littlefield placed 20th (25:13.62) and Emily Davis took 21st (25:53.09).
The Broncos take three weeks off until they head to the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 2 in South Bend, Ind.
