EAST LANSING, Mich. - Erin McDonald of the Michigan State women’s cross country team earned Big Ten Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league office on Wednesday, after winning the Jeff Drenth Memorial Race on Sept. 4 in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
McDonald, who ran unattached a year ago, improved by nearly 68 seconds from her time in 2014 at the event, clocking a 17:23.92. The Midland, Michigan, native beat out the second-place finisher by four seconds.
The Spartans earned two Big Ten weekly honors in 2014 on the women’s side, both plaudits by junior Rachele Schulist.
