ALLENDALE, Mich. – The 2014-15 Capital One Academic All-District Men's and Women's Track & Field/Cross Country teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America, were released on Tuesday (May 26), and three Grand Valley state student-athletes were among the recipients. Men's runners Ethan Barnes and Alan Peterson, as well as Laura Schroeder for the women, all earned a spot on the All-Academic list.

Barnes, a native of Calcedonia, Mich., carries a 3.88 grade point average as an Integrated Sciences major. As Grand Valley State's top mid-distance runner, Barnes earned All-America honors during the indoor and outdoor seasons. At the 2015 NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships in Birmingham, Ala., Barnes placed third in the 800m with a time of 1:50.40, and the junior placed fifth in the 800m at the Outdoor National Championships in Allendale, Mich. with a time of 1:50.53. Barnes was also named a recipient of the GLIAC Winter 2014-15 Commissioner's Award as well as the NCAA Elite 89 Award for his performance in the classroom as well as on the track.

Peterson, currently a graduate student hailing from Ironwood, Mich., holds a grade point average of 3.71 as an undergraduate with a major in Exercise Science before pursuing his master's degree in College Student Affairs Leadership, starred for the Lakers cross country team during the 2014 season. Peterson finished in the top 10 in six of the seven races he ran, including a ninth-place finish at the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championships in Louisville, Ky. to help GVSU finish second as a team. The senior distance runner was one of three Laker athletes to be awarded the 2014 Fall GLIAC Commissioner's Award for his performance on the field and in the classroom.

Schroeder, who carries a 3.81 grade point average as a Biomedical Sciences major, was twice an All-American in 2015 for the women's indoor and outdoor track & field team. The Sanford, Mich. native placed eighth in the weight throw at the NCAA Division II Indoor Track & Field National Championships, and placed second in the hammer throw at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field National Championships. Schroeder also placed first in the hammer throw at the 2015 GLIAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

All three will be placed on Capital One Academic All-America Team ballots, which will be announced the week of June 8-11.
