KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team wrapped up the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray Saturday, April 11. The Eagles competed in four relays along with one individual placing on the track as well as on the field.
Senior Victoria Voronko (Stavropol, Russia-School #42) made her season debut in the 3000m steeplechase and did not disappoint as the two-time Mid-American Conference champion handily won by over 15 seconds in 10:15.78, a mark that places her well above the field of MAC competitors. The individual placer on the field, Reagan Briggs (Bloomdale, Ohio-Elmwood) finished 18th in the javelin throw with a mark of 22.14 meters/72 feet 7-inches.
The Eagles reaped success in the relays, taking two runner-up finishes as well as a third and fourth place title to wrap up the weekend. In the 4x100m relay, the lineup of Danielle Clark (Paramaribo, Suriname-Ewald P. Meyer Lyceum), Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind.-John Adams), Morgan Yeadon (Indianapolis, Ind.-Pike), and Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa.-Hempfield Area) crossed the line in 45.88 seconds to finish second behind host Tennessee. The Eagles also saw a second-place finish from Taylor Knoll (Warren, Mich.-Mott (Lansing CC)), Chante Roberts (Lansing, Mich.-Waverly), Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich.-Chippewa Valley), and Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison) in the distance medley relay, finishing just behind Virginia Tech and breaking a 29-year-old record in the event to set the new program standard in 11:30.21.
In the 4x800m relay, the quartet of Rebecca Quaintance (Walled Lake, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), Claire Mesa (Rockford, Ill.-Rockford Lutheran), Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif.-Carson), and Rebecca Branham (Circleville, Ohio-Circleville) claimed third behind MAC foe Kent State and Furman in 9:22.40. Finally, Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier) teamed up with McKinney, Roberts, and Yeadon to finish fourth in the 4x400m relay, clocking in at 3:43.86.
The Eagles will head East once more next weekend when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. For the Virginia Challenge. The meet will run Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.
