BAY CITY, Mich. – Grand Valley State men's track & field athletes Sean Wells and Trent Chappell have been named the GLIAC Men's Track & Field Athletes of the Week after their performances at the EIU Big Blue Classic in Illinois this past weekend.
Wells, a junior from Fox Lake, Ill., set a school record in 110 meter hurdle final with a time of 14.01, also hitting an NCAA automatic qualifying mark in the process. The junior sprinter broke his own record set from the previous weekend's competition at the Raleigh Relays. He currently holds the third best time in Division II in the event and the top time in the GLIAC. Wells also netted a provisional qualifying mark in the 200 meter dash at the Big Blue Classic with a time of 21.13, placing him at the top of the conference and fifth in the NCAA in the event.
Chappell, a senior from Jenison, placed fourth in the high jump at the Big Blue Classic with a mark of 2.16 meters. A personal best during the outdoor season, Chappell's mark places him second in Division II and first in the GLIAC.
