OU - Davis wins third straight 200 meter race at GVSU Big Meet

ALLENDALE, Mich. - Aaron Davis won his third consecutive 200 meter dash title with a time of 21.82 on the final day of competition at the GVSU Big Meet held inside the Kelly Family Sports Center. This marks Davis' fourth title of the season. Oakland also captured first place titles from Jilliam Flint (200m-26.76), David Koponen (1-mile-4:26.79), Chris Scott (800m-1:53.17) and Derrek Williams (400m dash-50.85). Candice Mack (200m-25.25) and Matthew Jordan (triple jump-43 ft. 10.75 in.) each set school records.

"Just another great day of performances from our group," said head coach Paul Rice. "Another large number of personal records and a few school records from Matt and Candice coupled with a win for Aaron. There is just a ton of excitement right now around our team. The Horizon League Championships are very tough, but we are putting up some performances this season that shows we belong and it shows that we will hold our own in a few weeks. Now we just need to do the right things over the next two weeks. Fine tune, stay healthy and be ready to bring our best performances of the season to the championships. We can't wait!"

On the women's side, Serena San Cartier finished second in the 200m section-4 at 25.96 while Mack's record time was good for a third place finish in section-9. Other second place finishes included Sydney Sterling (400m-1:00.03), Karli Keur (1-mile-5:03.98), Ashley Burr (3000m-10:02.09) and Hayley MacDonald (long jump-16 ft. 11.5 in.).

For the men, Jordan's record triple jump earned him a second place finish in flight-2. George O'Connor finished second in the 1-mile behind Koponen at 4:18.14 in section-1. Koponen also finished second with a time of 1:53.34 in the 800m behind Scott. William Askew (200m-22.96), Nebojsa Marceta (400m-53.36) and Tim Pfund (400m-51.30) also finished second in each event while the 4x400 relay team of Williams, O'Connor, Tré Brown and Nick Bobek placed second with a time of 3:24.42.

The Golden Grizzlies head to Youngstown, Ohio for the 2015 Horizon League Indoor Championships held February 28 - March 1.
