WMU - Broncos With Strong Showings at SPIRE and GVSU

GENEVA, Ohio/ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Western Michigan track and field team wrapped up two days of competition at the SPIRE Invitational in Geneva, Ohio and the Grand Valley State Big Meet on Saturday.
Over at the SPIRE Invitational senior Kathryn Pickett finished third overall in the pentathlon and second collegiately with 3,705 points. Pickett took first place in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 to jump out to a good start. She also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 5.66m (18-7) and second in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23.09.
Alexis Hull was WMU's top finisher in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.40 seconds. In the 200-meter dash Naiomi Dulaney won her heat and finished with a time of 25.15 seconds. Freshman Maria McDaniel finished 15th overall in the mile run with a time of 4:52.45.
Over at Grand Valley State senior Maria Tomlinson had two strong performances in the shot put and the weight throw. In the shot put she took second overall with a distance of 13.56m (44-6) and freshman Jade Madison took sixth overall with a distance of 13.41m (44-0). In the weight throw Tomlinson broke the 50-foot barrier and took fifth overall with a distance of 15.47m (50-9.25). Lindsay Crum took eighth overall with a distance of 15.11m (49-7).
In the 200-meter dash Keyera Lige won her heat with a time of 26.52 seconds and Davonne Bolden took third in her heat but had the best time of any Bronco at 26.33 seconds. Lige also ran the team's fastest time in the 400-meter dash at 58.93 seconds.
In the 5,000-meter run senior Becca Peacock finished third in her heat with a time of 17:53. Sophomore Kirstie Wieber tied ninth place in the pole vault after reaching a height of 3.58m (11-09).
Next weekend the Broncos split up again for the Ball State Quad and the Alex Wilson Invitational at Notre Dame.
